Stems are stereo recordings sourced from mixes of multiple individual tracks. For example, a drum stem will typically be a stereo audio file that sounds like all of the drum tracks mixed together. In most cases, additional processing such as equalization, compression, and time-based effects is included to ensure that the sound achieved by the mixing engineer is committed.

Virtual DJ is one of the first to come out with a real-time stem separator that takes a fully compressed mix and separates the Vocals, Instrumentals, Bass, Kicks, and HiHats.

Our DJs now have the tool to make each song sound like the have every part of the song separately, whether they are taking the baseline from one of your favorite songs layered with the vocals from another, you will be impressed. Furthermore, if you’re having an awards or wedding ceremony, we can now simply remove the vocals with the twist of a knob. 24 hours ago, this wasn’t possible and, for transitions, the DJ would have to EQ each song to be seamless. Now that an algorithm can identify these stems, there is no need for the constant EQ check – which allows more time for the DJ to select the next best song.
